Killers of the Flower Moon, by David Grann

I read this book on my own. I actually advised my book club buddy here (my aunt) to skip the book because, well, here's my review:

This book needed more focus. Too many details, and too often, dry writing made this an arduous read. The first chapters had me thinking that I would not finish the book. But I pushed on, and, "push" is NOT a word that any reader appreciates.
Case in point: I'm on page 303, and I just cannot wait for it to be done. So I've stopped and peeked to see -- HOW MANY DAMN PAGES ARE LEFT?? -- and I'm relieved to see I only have 13 more pages.
The history of this tragic era is important, crucial, ...to be reckoned with and not ignored. I just wish there'd been a better editor -- one who could have MADE this author use a laser focus, and discard so much detritus.

As with SO MANY books today, the page count matters more than the delivery of the story. With 300+ pages, the publisher can charge a higher price. And who is to blame? AMAZON. Amazon has made the publishing world one in which writers and publishers do the work, then Amazon reaps tons of money by under-charging for the book. With pure sarcasm, I say, "Hey, let's all save three, four bucks on books, no matter the true cost to those who actually do the work!"

As for Killers of the Flower Moon, we (aunt and I) will both watch the movie, then discuss it  <3

Girl in Cabin 10, by Ruth Ware

I could only get thru half this book, due to the protagonist's constant panic attacks and descriptions of vertigo from being on a rocky boat.

"L" was listening on audio and finished the book. She gives it 3 & 1/4 stars out of 5.

We both found it repetitive. She'd drink, drink more, end up with a hangover, and over and over.

Rebecca, by Daphne Du Maurier

This book was written in 1938, and is considered a classic. That said, we got to about 21-25% before deciding the (audio) book is way too sl...
