I finished this book, but "L" found it confusing to keep the characters straight. I also got confused a few times, but overall, I liked the book. Between 0 stars from L, and 4 (out of 5) from me, let's call this a 3-star review. Good book, with what I found to be solid writing, without tons of fillers and tangents.
Brian Keys, ex journalist-turned-PI is the protagonist.
Skip Wiley is the popular columnist and Brian's ex-coworker.
The plot is Skip Wiley's frustration with the rampant destruction of Florida's land, animal habitat, basically paradise - all to attract tourism dollars or more folks to buy homes there, and Skip Wiley's plan put a stop to rampant development and tourism -- by murdering tourists.
There's a foray into the topic of Florida's history as being populated by the Seminole.
There's also analysis of good journalism versus bad (hacks).
All in all, this book kept me interested. But I was never overly invested in any of the characters. I liked Carol Ann the best, the crowned queen of the Orange Bowl. She was plucky and seemed to cut thru the BS from her dad and others.
