The Silent Patient, by Alex Michaelides

We both loved this book.

well-written, suspenseful page-turner with insight into the mental (in)stability of humans. Fascinating how the author ties in the impact of childhood psychic trauma without having to bring us down the road of detailed cruelty to children. At 323 pages, it was the perfect length. Not too long, no belabouring certain themes...just forward action.

Alyssia, a painter, married to Gabriel. Her mom killed herself when Alyssia was young.

Theo, a therapist, married to Kathy.

A mental hospital is the main setting where Allysia is the patient (who does not speak since her husband was killed).

A theme -- for those who were abused by their parents, they always feel that happiness is fleeting (melts like a snowflake).
